A fire risk assessment tells you what's wrong. It doesn't design the fix, get it through planning and Building Regulations, or make sure the work on site achieves what the paperwork claims. That's the part I lead.

  • Fire escapes - New and altered means of escape — designed, taken through planning where required, and built.

  • Improvement works - Compartmentation upgrades, fire doors and passive fire protection — designed, specified, tendered and administered on site.

ONE TEAM, ONE POINT OF RESPONSIBILITY

Fire work done properly is a team: surveyor, fire engineer, accredited installers. What most buildings lack is the person who assembles that team, turns the risk assessment into a designed scheme, wins the approvals and answers for the result. That's my role — lead consultant, start to finish.

Responsible persons are under more scrutiny than at any point in decades. If your risk assessment has raised actions you're not sure how to close out — or an enforcing authority has — the answer is a designed scheme with the approvals to back it, not a builder's best guess.

    THE JOB

    Fire safety upgrade to a trading retail unit.

    WHAT IT NEEDED

    Fire stopping and passive fire protection, a new fire escape requiring planning permission, and a fire strategy for Building Regulations.

    WHAT I HANDLED

    Design, both applications, coordination of the fire strategy, specification of the works, delivery — with the unit trading throughout.

  • COMPLETED: Littlemore Mental Health Centre

    Replacement fire doors and fire safety works within a programme of ward, kitchen and WC refurbishments across the site.
