Health

Jonathan Durndell has successfully provided a number of services and delivered a range of healthcare projects, from inception to completion. At Jonathan Durndell, we have the skills and experience to help deliver projects within budget and programme. By listening and working together with our clients, we can help ensure that their reasons for undertaking the work are fully achieved, incorporating important infection control detailing, and ensure that the return on capital expenditure is maximised.

Experience ranges from access audits, conditions surveys, small repairs and maintenance projects, through to complex refurbishments, alterations and extensions with project values of up to £4m, often involving careful phasing around occupied premises. Experience has been gained across many healthcare areas, including primary care trusts, mental health, health clinics, blood centres, prisons and dentistry. All specified works comply with HTM64 guidance and meet strict infection control standards.

Some examples of the work undertaken:

  Ward refurbishments;

  Accessible WC’s and shower room refurbishments;

  Installation of infection control basins;

  Privacy & dignity works;

  Fire precaution works;

  Replacement floor coverings;

  Sluice room refurbishments;

  Commercial kitchen refurbishments;

  Mental health and prison anti-ligature refurbishments;

  Clinic and dentistry refurbishments;

  Office and auxiliary space refurbishments and extensions.

Approach

Construction projects require careful planning and coordination from the start. We put a lot of emphasis on developing the brief and defining our client’s objectives, we then often undertake costed feasibility studies to help our clients submit accurate business cases or obtain the capital funding required for the projects.

Team Working

Construction projects often require the skills of other disciplines, such as services consultants, structural engineers and quantity surveyors. At Jonathan Durndell, we are often appointed as lead consultant to coordinate the project, and to help our clients appoint specialist consultants when required to form the ‘design team’, and to manage their involvement throughout the process.

Expertise

Through training and experience in healthcare projects, we are well placed to develop schemes, obtain budget costs, advise on procurement methods, obtain planning permission and building regulation approvals, specify practical and infection control preventative designs and effectively administer the building contract while the works are on site to ensure the works are completed professionally, safely, to a high standard of quality and to minimise disruption to the day to day running of the healthcare service.
